in the neighborhoods

Chef Kerry Seaton, great-granddaugther of Willie Mae Seaton, has taken over the kitchen of this 6th ward neighborhood jewel: Willie Mae's Scotch House.
Kerry invited us into her kitchen. Not that we could recreate what she was doing.

Known for its secret recipe fried chicken, the restaurant makes some mighty fine pork chops too.

Saturday morning we made it to Chef Doris' Two Sisters Restaurant, located comfortably in another New Orleans neighborhood. I dream of one day living in a neighborhood with such a place in walking distance from my home. Some day, some day.

In the lower 9th ward that was so hard hit by Katrina, we checked out the Global Green house project. These new homes are LEED platinum certified (that's the highest LEED rating!). There's never an electric bill because they produce more electricity than they use. And why aren't all homes built this way?

I was very excited to see a bit of green roof in action. I've read about the benefits of these but never seen them first-hand.
